The storage link uses its own format for your hard drive. Linksys needs to send a disc that will actually format the drive with the storage link.
As of now, I am still looking into how to format it. I am sure this would be a nice device if only I could get my drive to format.
I bought this to stream media from my hard drive, I have yet to accomplish this task. This takes forever, I have attempted it multiple times without success yet.
Will update this once resolved. Partly because I don't have time and partly because this is a huge pain to set up.
you must take everything off the hard drive and format it through the Internet.
I'd better find another product that can be hacked and cheaper than this. I bought NSLU2 a year ago at amazon for $49.99, now the price is $109.99. What is going on.
Shame no longer supported by Linksys - but the forum has plenty of advice - One word of warning - because this product runs using LINUX, if your external hard drive is not FAT formated you'll have to reformat it before it'll be able to read it.
Is simple and straight forward and can be modified to do more than I am capable of doing. An easy solution to my needs. It is a good low priced solution for network storage. Available is wide variety of tweeks and modifications which extend and enhance a variety of practical applications, making it a versatile piece of equipment.
Thus, this seems an odd product to have on the market. Problem is that this device requires that you format any drives attached to it, and the drives I have are full of pictures, music, and movies. If I just wanted empty NAS, I'd buy one. I bought this in order to two two USB drives into network attached storage. The setup was relatively straight forward until I got to the end.
